GYAN TRISHNA

One step with Mainstreamed, Migrated and Scattered out of school children……..

GYAN TRISHNA offers its humble effort for tracking mainstreamed/ migrated children up to 18th years and providing necessary support to the them so that they can achieve the desired goal of completing their education up to secondary level. Our motive is to make them self-reliant and mould them to be considered potent human resource that may contribute to the growth and development of the society as a whole.

Primary education is a fundamental right of children recognized globally and enshrined in India’s Constitution (Article21-A). Through the Right to Education (RTE) Act, 2009, elementary education for 6-14 years age group have been made free and compulsory. To ensure this right the Government have taken various measures. Samagra Shiksha is India’s integrated school education scheme (pre-school to class12) that has focused on quality and equity, aiming to enhance learning, bridge gender/social gaps, promote inclusivity (especially for CwSN), support NEP2020 and RTE Act implementing for universal, holistic education.

School Dropout is a significant issue of Assam in Primary, Upper primary and secondary level. Samagra Shiksha plays a vital role in reducing dropouts by providing integrated support from Pre-Primary to senior secondary, focusing on identifying and tracking out of school children, offering Special training & alternative education (like open schooling for older kids) and providing financial aid (uniforms, school bag, teaching learning materials).

Every year Samagra Shiksha, through Special Training component, has successfully mainstreamed thousands of Out-of- school children (OoSC), including dropouts ,never enrolled and migrated learner, in to formal Education. Here arise a big question - are all primary and upper primary mainstreamed learner continuing their education up to secondary level and up to the desired achievement? If not, is it not the reason for high rate of secondary dropouts in ASSAM? Causes of school dropout are very complex. It includes family issues like Poverty, low parental education, child labour, sibling care, personal factor like poor performance, lack of interest, high -risk behaviours, health, substance abuse, early marriage and school related problems like overcrowded classrooms, negative school climate, unsupportive teachers/peers, social disconnection and caste/backward class status etc. CAN SPECIAL TRAINING RESOLVE THE PROBLEMS OF THE DROPOUT CHILDREN WHICH AT THE FIRST PLACE CAUSED THEM TO DISCONTINUE THEIR EDUCATION. If not, there is high possibility that the student again to be a dropout and it became a circle defeating the vary purpose of the mission. It is the combine responsibility of the schools, the guardian’s and the community as a whole to keep the child in school up to secondary level and help them to achieve the desired goal after mainstream.

Needless to say, Pallabi Saikia has drawn much inspiration to make this humble effort from the very provisions of “Good Practice and Innovative Work” highlighted in the job chart of the District Quality Manager (ST Component), Samagra Shiksha, Nagaon, Assam. This work was carried out with the support and cooperation of all Education Volunteers under the Lowkhowa Education Block.
